Hi. I'm Joanne Stuart. I'm an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist and a chartered and registered clinical psychologist - I support individuals with their psychological wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist and a clinical psychologist. My focus includes stress, as well as the specific issues encountered by men.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your feelings and actions. It identifies and addresses negative ideas that perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of CBT is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends CBT for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your ideas, emotions and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or find appropriate methods of managing.

Thoughts on Mental Health

You could develop a phobia about anything - driving, water, tomatoes - you name it, there will be someone in the world that has developed a fear of it. There are some theories that suggest that some phobias are innate (i.e. you are born with them) - for example, a fear of snakes. Generally, however, phobias develop following on from a highly unpleasant experience involving a specific object or situation and heightened anxiety accompanying this. Anxiety is your brain's way of telling you to 'be aware' or that there is danger present. The next time you think of or encounter the object or situation, your brain remembers the unpleasant previous experience and you feel anxiety once more.
