More Detail

Over 14 Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hello. I am Els Van Ooijen. I'm an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals with their mental health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment appointment helps you to see if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to book a preliminary assessment appointment in Clifton, Bristol.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue regarding your early years and/or adulthood you discuss. The aim of counselling is to enable you to speak about a difficulty and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy selects therapies to suit your preferences and the issues you experience. It explores your subjective experience and choices. The aim of integrative therapy is to help you develop your self-awareness.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you confront. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or find suitable ways of coping.

Thoughts on Mental Health

One client was suspicious of me as he had not liked a previous therapist. By explaining to him that the therapeutic relationship is two-way, we were able to be upfront with each other and did some good work together.
