Over 11 Years Post-Chartership Experience

Welcome. I am Colin Hicks. I'm a chartered and registered counselling psychologist and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist - I assist individuals with their mental wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a counselling psychologist and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment appointment allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy may assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an initial assessment meeting in Otterbourne, Winchester.

Client Centred Therapy

Client centred therapy concentrates on appreciating and supporting you. It facilitates your honesty around the concerns you experience. Client centred therapy aims to help you discover your own solutions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts which maintain the problems you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine which issue regarding your early years or adulthood you explore. The objective of counselling is to help you to speak about a difficulty and find a solution that is appropriate for you.

Psychology is interested in you and your mind, emotions and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental wellbeing support. The intention of psychological therapy is to help you ease symptoms.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your thoughts, feelings and relevant events in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or find suitable ways of coping.
