More Detail

17+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I'm Diane Adderley. I'm a registered psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their mental wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a psychotherapist. My focus involves bereavement, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and the particular obstacles encountered by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment meeting allows you to see if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy may assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment session in Prestwich, Manchester or Uppermill, Oldham.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant events in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover suitable ways of managing.

Thoughts on Mental Health

The relationship between a client and their therapist takes time to establish, and it is vitally important to develop trust if you are to feel safe enough to tell your story. You don't have to tell your story all in one go. It may be that you will need a number of sessions before you are ready to tackle some of your concerns. If there are questions you want to know the answers to, ask them. Your therapist may probe a little to find out why this is important to you, but, for me, I will always attempt to give a truthful answer.

You may be experiencing bodily symptoms which, after checking with your GP, appear not to have a medical cause, such as a painful head, neck, shoulders, joints, the feeling of struggling to breathe, constant tiredness. These symptoms are often caused by the physical tension created in the body when you are experiencing a high level of stress.†By working with a therapist, you may be able to identify the particular stressors in your life that are causing your physical symptoms, and explore ways to reduce their impact on you, which can lead to a reduction in symptoms and an increased sense of wellbeing.

Keeping yourself hydrated can help combat anxiety. If possible, give yourself some quiet time before the session, perhaps the evening before, to think about what you want to achieve. Some people choose to find the consulting room premises in advance so there are no worries about getting lost on the day itself. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive, and take some slow, deep breaths to calm yourself.
