More Detail

9+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I'm Adrienne. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I have private, public and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest includes depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and stress, as well as the specific challenges faced by bisexual and gay men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment session enables you to discover if you are comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an introductory assessment session in Atherington, Umberleigh or Barnstaple.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and behaviour. It identifies and challenges unhelpful ideas that perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine which issue concerning your childhood and/or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and find a solution that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious causes of the problems you experience. It facilitates you in being conscious of aspects of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy aims to enhance your self-comprehension to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates psychodynamic therapy for anorexia nervosa, depression, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your ideas, emotions and significant events in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or find appropriate ways of coping.
