Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is one of the Mood Disorders. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is characterised by one or more major depressive episodes consisting of depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure. Major depressive episodes may be mild, moderate, or severe. They may occur in clusters, be separated by many years, or increase in frequency. Major depressive disorder (MDD) may involve emotional pain and disrupt day to day life as well as personal relationships or work relationships.
 

Symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

A major depressive episode of depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure may be accompanied by symptoms including agitation, anger, appetite increase or decrease, brooding, concentration problems, fatigue, or frustration. Other symptoms may include guilt, hopelessness, indecisiveness, irritability, loss of sexual desire, physical aches and pains, sadness, sleep problems such as insomnia or hypersomnia, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, tearfulness, tiredness, weight gain or weight loss, or worthlessness.
 

Causes of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) may follow a stressful live event such as bereavement or divorce. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) may be related to negative thoughts and beliefs, self blame, or self hate. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) may also be related to Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), chronic physical illnesses, Dysthymic Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), or having first degree relatives with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
