Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I provide integrative counselling and psychotherapy at the City Psychotherapy Service (the CPS) which is located in Shoreditch on the border of the City of London and Eastern areas of London. The therapy practice is within walking distance of Old Street and Liverpool Street tube and mainline stations. It is also close to many accessible bus routes.
The type of therapy treatment I offer will vary according to your needs and what develops from our first meeting. Generally though, it will belong to one of three categories:
Short term focus based therapy for specific problems (six to twelve sessions).
Medium term support counselling and psychotherapy (three to twelve months).
Long term psychodynamic psychotherapy (one to two years or more).
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I believe that psychotherapy and counselling can help because the opportunity is afforded to be with someone who listens to what you are thinking and feeling without judging you or imposing restraint. It can help you develop a better awareness and understanding of your underlying emotional patterns and the (often) negative choices that are made from them. It becomes a place in which to explore yourself and your problems - a place in which you can express your true feelings and develop your potential. In my opinion, the majority of us could benefit from this kind of help at some point in our lives. We may struggle with specific problems caused by relationships, friendships, bereavement, loss, low self-esteem, isolation and difficult cultural issues, or we may experience a general sense of unease and sadness in our daily life. Although psychotherapy does not offer a miracle cure, when it works, it can lead to healing and well-being. Because this encounter is of a personal nature, it is also important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and who holds the appropriate qualifications.
