Clinical Experience

I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist based in Welling near Bexleyheath, and have much experience of helping people with a wide range of personal issues, having been a counsellor/psychotherapist for many years.
My clincal experience began with the befriending/counselling work that I did at a hostel for the homeless and at Victim's Support.

I had further clinical experience in the context of practising counselling and psychotherapy in a NHS Centre for three and a half years, as well as at Mind for two years.

I also have experience of providing therapy to those with substance abuse issues, having done such work for the Addiction Psychology Services Department of the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.

I am recognised by a number of Health Insurance Companies, so if you hold such a policy, I would be happy to discuss this further.

I have been providing counselling/psychotherapy with individuals and couples at my private practice since 2004. The focus of the work is often peoples' personal issues which get in the way of their work. I also offer supervision for others practising in this field.

How I Work

I am a firm believer in Freud's and Winnicott's view of health as an ability to work, love and play. My integrative approach to psychotherapy equips me to explore the obstacles to the fulfilment of such goals.

My humanistic training emphasizes the need of an accepting, respectful attitude towards clients. This facilitates the creation of a safe, secure and confidential space which allows the client to speak freely about what is troubling them.

My psychodynamic learning expresses itself in an assessment of the barriers to health, arising from people's childhood experiences and relationships.

Kevin Spacey's statement in American Beauty: "it's a great thing in life when you know that you can still surprise yourself ", allows clarification of the existential school which is underpinned by the concept of change being integral to health. My existential approach allows me to explore factors that impede such progress, such as anxiety, which results in assessing possible ways of living more resourcefully.

My Master's Degree gave me insight into how a humorous, playful approach can counter the anxiety that arises in life and its changes.

I work with individuals and couples and listening is integral to how I practice, as well as adding my own ideas and feelings where appropiate. However, I am mindful of where my client is at, so I don't push him/her to go to places for which he/she is unprepared.

Therapy is open-ended so it's up to the client to decide how long it lasts.

Clinical Training

My training started with two introductory counselling courses in existential and gestalt therapy.

I trained for three years as a counsellor/psychotherapist at Regent's College, London where I achieved a Post-Graduate Diploma and Master's Degree.

I finished my therapeutic training at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, where I obtained a Diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy which led to UKCP registration.
