Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy

I have provided counselling and psychotherapy both within the NHS and privately in Birmingham, for a variety of emotional and relationship issues. This includes both individual and group therapy with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I am particularly interested in holding a spiritual dimension to therapy. I also actively welcome people identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT).

What to Expect during Psychotherapy

I am a Core Process Psychotherapist. Core Process Psychotherapy is a gentle, effective form of in-depth psychotherapy, and includes both Western and Eastern models of working with embodiment. The basis of the therapy is that at the core of all of us is a place which is fundamentally OK, but has often been obscured by various layers of suffering as we come into the world and live in it.

The therapist remains alongside the client, helping him/her to stay with their experience moment-to-moment, with awareness and compassion, until something new can emerge.

Sessions may well include non-verbal expression such as silence, and movement; emotional release such as tears; and various forms of creativity. I sometimes use Focusing as a tool to deepen into the work, where appropriate.

The pace and level of the therapy is that which feels safe and right for you. It tends to be medium to long-term, to enable depth of trust between client and therapist to be established, however shorter periods can be useful to focus on very specific issues.

Clinical Qualifications in Psychotherapy

  • UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist since 2007
  • UKCP Accredited Training Core Process Psychotherapy - Karuna Institute (KI) Newton Abbot (UK) 2007

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Psychotherapy. I abide by the Code of Ethics of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Code of Ethics of the Karuna Institute (KI) Newton Abbot.
