I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and am also Registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). I have been working as a counselling psychologist for 16 years and have worked in a range of contexts including trauma clinics, NHS and university counselling services. I have worked with a wide range of client difficulties particularly trauma. I offer a confidential private counselling service in Beckenham and abide by the BPS code of conduct.
What to Expect during Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
I aim to provide a safe non-judgemental place where you, the client, can talk about what is troubling you. I draw on a wide range of approaches in my work and the one I use depends very much on your preferences, and the type of problems you are bringing. The effectiveness of all these approaches depends on a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship being built up over time between us.I believe that we all have enormous capacity for growth and change and my job is to help you tap into your strengths and work through your difficulties. If you are thinking of having therapy privately then do please contact me for an initial session during which we will begin to explore your problems and discuss how best I can help you.
I offer both daytime and evening appointments, and I can usually see people straight away. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of its scheduled time you will still need to pay for the session as this does not give me time to make arrangements for an appointment with someone else. I can see you weekly or if you prefer fortnightly.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
My initial training was a 3 year MSc in Counselling at Goldsmiths College, completed in 1993 during which I was trained in the person-centred approach and cognitive behaviour therapy. Since then I have attended numerous training sessions including traumatic incident reduction, rational emotive behaviour therapy, multi-modal therapy and clinical supervision. I am committed to continual professional development. I regularly attend and present at conferences.
Additional Information
In addition to providing therapy I am also a university lecturer and have been the course director for the professional doctorate in counselling psychology. I am a keen researcher and in particular am interested in the mental health of former member of fundamentalist sects or cults.
