Clinical Experience in Counselling

I have over six years experience working in a University Student Counselling Service along with a number of years experience as a Counsellor within the NHS. I also work in Private Practice. I work short and long term with individuals and couples. In addition I work as an 'Assist' Trainer delivering a Peer Support programme to Year 8's in School's to encourage young people to remain smoke free. This is backed by a research programme developed by Bristol & Cardiff University.

What to Expect during Counselling

From a Humanistic perspective I believe that the relationship that develops between the Client and Counsellor is at the core of the therapeutic work. This relationship can be both reparative and supportive as you explore issues which may be causing you pain or difficulty in your life.

As an Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor I draw on a number of different theoretical frameworks which I have integrated into my working approach and which informs my practice. It is important that the therapy that is offered is tailored to your needs as an individual seeking help and support.

I offer short term Counselling which is usually for 6-8 weeks, this may be extended. Short term work is often focused on a particular crisis, transition or difficulty and can help you to feel clearer and work towards a resolution which will enable you to move forward in your life.

Long Term Psychotherapeutic Counselling involves a more in depth exploration of the issues which are causing difficulty in your life. These issues may be long standing or reoccurring. The work may involve looking at unhelpful patterns of relating from the past which impact your experience in the present, working with difficult emotional experiences or memories. In this work the client can become more aware of unconscious processes, understand and become more attuned to emotional responses in the body. Growth and change is possible. Long Term Psychotherapeutic Counselling may involve supporting you through a bereavement, loss or major life transition.

Couples Counselling: Couples often come to counselling in crisis or transition with something needing to end and something needing to grow. My 'client' is your relationship and I offer a safe, confidential space where you can both feel heard and understood. I can help you both make sense of the experience of your relationship, what it has been and what it is now. To clarify the issues in your relationship which are causing difficulty and to help you make clear decisions for the future.

I work from my Home in Rode, Somerset and from Grosvenor Place in Bath. I offer 50 minute individual sessions and 60 minutes for couples usually on a once a week basis.
