Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have worked as a person centred counsellor for 10 years within community counselling services, a GP's surgery, universities and in private practice. These environments have always provided me with the opportunity to work with clients from a diverse range of countries, cultures, ethnicities and ages.
The types of issues clients bring to me have been equally diverse. I have worked with people who find themselves distressed by difficult current life circumstances; others who are struggling to live with longer term unresolved issues and individuals who may have been given a psychiatric diagnosis.
In addition to providing counselling, I also supervise trainee and volunteer counsellors at a local community counselling service.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
As a person centred counsellor I view counselling as a collaborative and creative process which goes at a pace and lasts for a duration that the client feels comfortable with.My aim is to provide a safe, respectful space where my client can be listened to carefully and without fear of judgement. Together we will explore and work to make sense of that which 'gets in the way' of the client living life as they really want to.
If my client wishes to make changes I want to support them to the best of my abilities but the decisions they make will be theirs and theirs alone.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I completed five years of clinical training which included a 4 year Diploma and BA (Hons) Degree in Person Centred Counselling at the Metanoia Institute in London. I have since completed a further year's Supervision training, also at Metanoia.
I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice and my work is regularly supervised by a senior practitioner. I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
