Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have been working as a counsellor since 2000 and now have an independent private counselling practice on Regent Street in Central London.
I have experience of working with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties and with men and women from diverse backgrounds who come with a variety of concerns and expectations.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I offer open-ended counselling and time-limited focused therapy for adult individuals usually on a once a week basis. The kind of therapy I practice is based on what are called psychodynamic principles, with the recognition that the difficulties we experience in the present often have their roots in the past - that we often repeat our mistakes instead of understanding them. My work is also informed by other models (principally existential and philosophical approaches to life's challenges).
Psychodynamic counselling is a type of in-depth counselling that draws on theories and practices of analytical psychology and psychoanalysis. It has a long respected history going back to thinkers like Freud and Jung.
In regular 50 minute weekly sessions and within the contained context of the therapeutic relationship, feelings, thoughts, wishes, memories and dreams can be explored and the client can be helped to understand unconscious processes which affect their everyday thinking and behaviour. This understanding allows the possibility of greater freedom of thought and action. In this way, psychodynamic counselling may gradually bring about a greater degree of self-awareness, enabling the individual to find more appropriate ways of being, and of coping with distress.
Many people who experience loss of meaning in their lives or who are seeking a greater sense of fulfilment may be helped by psychodynamic counselling.

Additional Information
If we agree that ongoing counselling is the best way forward we can discuss a regular weekly slot at the same time each week. That may be either for a fixed time (say 10 or 12 weeks) or for an indefinite period (until such time as we mutually agree to end). Once a regular session time is arranged that will be your time kept for you each week.
