Clinical Experience in Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
I am a Health Professions Council (HPC) Registered Clinical Psychologist. I am experienced in working with adults and families with severe, longstanding and complex mental health difficulties. In the NHS, I have worked with male sexual offenders in prison, adults and children with learning disabilities, adults in secure, acute inpatient facilities and community mental health teams, children and families in family therapy clinics, and adult clients of a specialised psychotherapy service in a drug and alcohol team.
I now work in the NHS in a specialised service for parents and children, and as a supervisor and trainer for psychiatrists. I also run a private psychotherapy organisation in Bristol.
What to Expect during Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
Body psychotherapy attends to your mind and your body to address suffering and unhappiness. It encourages balance and vitality in each of the different realms of experience that you inhabit. Body psychotherapy sees your emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical worlds as interconnected parts of a whole. It attempts to engage each of these worlds, through conscious and unconscious processes, to bring about healing.Body psychotherapy works with your essential aliveness, and with the things that stop you from experiencing this aliveness. Sometimes we all have to turn away from our own vitality, to protect ourselves from pain, to escape abusive or traumatic experiences, to bear shame and humiliation, simply to exist in an unwelcoming environment, to cope with hardship and neglect, and for many other reasons. We take these protective strategies into our being, and they become set in our embodied experience of ourselves. Body psychotherapy works with your innate capacity for healing, by gently engaging this embodied experience, when it is ready to be engaged.
The basic intentions of our work together will be to help you live a more whole, integrated and fulfilling life, through a growing awareness of the somatic and unconscious processes involved in the experiences that you bring.
