Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychology

My clinical experience includes working as a counsellor in two different settings alongside each other over a three year period. Firstly at Trafford General Hospital, Manchester. I worked as a counsellor within the occupational health department. Working with staff of the NHS I counselled individual NHS staff members around issues including depression, work stress, anxiety, bullying and bereavement. I created a safe, secure and nurturing environment for my clients. I worked with each individual client to identify the presenting issues, specify which issues were the most important to resolve and worked towards this. We reviewed the session on an ongoing basis to ensure that the appropriate issues where being address and resolved. I also worked as a counsellor at The Counselling and Family Centre, Altrincham, Manchester. I worked with private individuals and people who came on a referral basis from local GP offices. The issues that I worked with included anger management, depression, anxiety, abuse and bereavement. I worked with each individual client to identify the presenting issues, specify which issues were the most important to resolve and worked towards this.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychology

I provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment where you can talk freely about your problems. I work with you collaboratively in finding ways of addressing your specific issues. I then encourage you to look at different techniques and skills you can use to move forward.

My counselling approach is integrative, which means I pull from a foundation of different approaches when working with clients. My approach is flexible and adaptable to each client’s specific needs. Approaches I draw from include the person centred approach, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic theory, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. My aim is to work with clients to help create a sense of inner peace, to facilitate their own personal growth and help towards the development of their own personal power.
