Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I specialise in divorce and separation issues offering one to one and group support. I have broad experience working with couple counselling. My Professional Training was at a busy NHS Medical Centre. During the counselling process I will encourage you to talk about the problems concerning you, help you to work through them and move you to a more fulfilling life, especially problems arising during the divorce process, grief and menopausal depression. I believe that out of negatives many positives can grow and strengthen us. I am dedicated to helping you deal with these difficulties.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

The Humanistic Approach forms a therapeutic relationship between the Client and the Counsellor, who work together to empower the client to regain control of their life and emotions in order to move on autonomously. I work with the Integrative approach which cohesively uses many different humanistic skills according to the client's needs. The client leads the process whilst the counsellor walks theoretically beside the client as they recover their strengths and fundamental values. I honour the client's process and encourage the client's potential whilst validating their uniqueness. I use gentle interventions to help the client see that they hold the key to their own life and success and offer life coaching skills to support this.

I have had first hand experience of the litigation process and am involved in regular meetings with collaborative family law members and the mediation process. I am therefore particularly able in supporting those going through the overwhelming process of divorce or separation. I recognise a need for more support in this area, it can be an isolating experience. If you are unsure whether the counselling process is what you need, we can arrange an assessment session or email contact, for you to then decide whether you wish to continue the process. I also run a weekly divorce support group.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I attained my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at the Iron Mill Institute, Exeter. My experience has taught me that whilst living in this fast moving world we may have lost sight of the meaning of life and what we need to make the most out of it. We feel out of kilter, lost and bewildered, most commonly leading to a form of depression. Some clients may feel unable to function and then suffer somatically. By identifying the need to share and explore their problems with a qualified counsellor, we are already on the road to recovery, where confidentiality is respected with few exceptions, (self-harm being one), in a non judgemental safe place, with unconditional regard for the client's wellbeing.

Additional Information

For my own personal development I continue to attend Workshops, Forums, Seminars and Family Consultancy Divorce Therapy meetings. I am an affiliated member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association).

I receive regular supervision and abide by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
