Clinical Experience in Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
I'm a British Psychological Society (BPS) and Health Professions Council (HPC) Registered Chartered Counselling Psychologist practicing in Wimbledon, London. I provide face to face, telephone and interned based counselling and psychotherapy.
I work with individuals and couples who may be professionals, new mothers, fathers, mothers returning to work and parents requiring guidance with their children. I have experience in working with parents with children, including children with learning difficulties.
Whilst in the UK, clinical experience includes the NHS within a specialist child and family service, a specialist service for adults with learning difficulties and gp services both public and private. In South Africa, I gained experience working in a military hospital, children's assessment service and a trauma refugee clinic. I have also volunteered for a depression and anxiety service and worked with prisoners managing stress, depression and anxiety.
What to Expect during Counselling, Psychology and Psychotherapy
My approach to working with you is guided by what you bring to the session and through conversation we will identify themes and key areas that you may find challenging in your life. You may find that you've reached a stage in life where your dreams and aspirations have not been met and you would now like to make them a reality. The aim of psychotherapy is to provide you with a safe place to explore and understand yourself and to get reconnected with your real self. This means that over time you may build up coping mechanisms or behaviours or defenses that become unhelpful, keep you from developing your true potential and keep you from feeling satisfied and reaching those dreams and aspirations you wish for.
I integrate theoretical approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and narrative therapy. It is a subtle process and may seem like a conversation that has some direction and outcome at the end of the allotted time. It may be that there is an activity or a bit of 'work' required by you between the sessions for you to bring back the following week. This is always at your discretion.
