Clinical Experience
I have lengthy experience of working with sufferers of mental ill-health, with relationships, and multiple forms of distress. I start with where each person is at and explore the areas they designate as problematic. I use a mixture of techniques suiting them to the requirements of each person. How I Work
Coming from a psychodynamic background, I take into account a person's history and how it relates to their current situation. I also work experientially, exploring whatever comes up in each session, physically and emotionally.I see my role as one of helping a person to make the necessary changes to his/her life and to move on.
Initially I make a contract for a preliminary number of sessions and hold periodic reviews. I view beginnings and endings as very important, as is confidentiality. I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics. (Copies available).
Clinical Training
From a background of teaching, I re-trained as firstly, a marriage guidance counsellor, then as a social worker. My main experience has been in community mental health work. After retiring, I completed the Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I continue to work voluntarily with female survivors of sexual abuse.Additional Information
Unfortunately I am not usually available during the summer months owing to other commitments. I therefore prefer shorter term contracts, though I am willing to accept re-referrals.Updated 10|02|2008
