Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I specialise in working with career-orientated women who are struggling with issues of self-confidence, self-esteem and relationship difficulties to live happier, more fulfilling lives.
How can counselling help you? Counselling can help by using tried and trusted techniques that allow you to get a better understanding of yourself, your world and your place in it.
Deciding to start counselling takes courage. It’s a process we work through together to reach your goals, whatever they are. At this stage you may not be too sure what they are and that’s OK, we’ll work them out together. It requires your commitment, time and energy.
Our work together is based on the premise that I’m working to make myself redundant to your needs. Together we’ll explore your strengths, your weaknesses, the values that are uniquely yours. It’s not my intention to keep you in therapy one session longer than you need. And we won’t finish before we feel you’re ready either.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
You might be considering counselling because you’re feeling frustrated, stuck, confused or pretty fed-up and depressed with trying to figure out career stuff, relationship stuff or life stuff…maybe all three.Do any of these situations resonate with you…?
- You want to actually like what you do for a living.
Your job is ok, but you want to love what you do 8 to 12 hours each day. Surely some people do. You want to find that thing that YOU like most.
- You want more because you know there’s more to be had.
Right now, you feel you’re running on fumes. You’re going through the motions of the day-to-day and just about everything feels lackluster. You want to flip the switch to ON.
- Your career is going well, but your life outside of work sucks big time.
Between your work obligations, sleeping and the occasional shower, you have no life. Your life is very full of stuff and things, but it does not feel complete.
- Your life is like Groundhog Day.
You keep looking up and noticing that everything is the same. Sure – different boyfriend, different job but somehow you’re still not in a relationship that’s healthy or a job that’s fulfilling.
- You’re pretty sure your relationship is broken and you have no idea how to fix it.
You keep having the same arguments and rows, making up and then hurting each other all over again. And, damn it, you’d like to stop!
You’ll reap the all the benefits of counselling if…
You want to understand why. Why is life just not working for you right now? Why do you repeat patterns of behaviour? Curiosity is king when it comes to counselling.
You’re tired of quick fixes, you’re ready for a lasting solution. You’re a smart cookie – you know that it didn’t take a week to arrive in your current personal hell, and it will take more than a day’s work to find your way out. And it will be worth it.
You are ready to commit the time and energy to do the work on yourself first. There’s self-work involved in counselling and you need to be cool with that. I’ll be there with you every step of the way, but you understand that we will collaborate to help you reach understanding. I will work with you, I cannot work for you.
You realize that no one can solve your problems for you except for you. This is the good news/bad news – the issues are 100% in your hands. You create the life you love. Don’t get me wrong – you’ll get my full support. But you understand that your fairy godmother is not coming.
You want to work with a normal human being. The word “psychotherapist” can conjure up all sorts of stereotypes…I don’t think I fit with any of them, but I’ll let you be the judge of that!
