Clinical Experience in Counselling

I have worked for a number of years as a Counsellor and Senior Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist in both the private and charity fields. I have had experience of providing both short and long term counselling for a wide range of issues, both with my private clients and those who I have worked with at a leading charity in the West Midlands. In working with my clients, my aim is to meet them with empathy and respect and without judgement, valuing their uniqueness and individuality, whilst tailoring the therapy to their specific needs. I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I am registered with and adhere to the Ethical Code of the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute which is a constituent member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). As a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

What to Expect during Counselling

As an Integrative Counsellor and Therapist I work using a developmental-relational approach that uses a synthesis of Humanistic Psychology, Object Relations Theory and psychoanalytic Self-Psychology.

I ‘integrate’ these approaches depending on the needs of the person I am working with, with the aim of enabling them to experience life in the fullest way that is available to them.

Working in this way enables an understanding of how past experiences shape how we are today, while also focusing on here and now experiencing.

The relationship between therapist and client is very important. Once a trusting secure relationship is achieved, it can be used as a way of exploring issues affecting you in order to find more fulfilling ways of being in the world.

Through this relationship, you will be able to have different experiences of relating and being, in order to grow and make positive changes.

The uniqueness of a therapeutic relationship is the availability of another human being who has no preconception of you and no personal agenda other than to be in relationship with you and be helpful in guiding you in your right direction.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling

I have a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Recognised Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I am a researcher at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute
(SPTI) undertaking a Master of Arts in Integrative Psychotherapy with Birmingham University. On completion I will gain full UKCP registration.
