Clinical Experience in Counselling, Psychotherapy
I am UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist. I provide short term counselling to both individuals and couples who have a particular concern in their life, and longer term psychotherapy to those who wish to explore patterns and relationships in more depth. I have practised as a therapist for more than twelve years. I have been involved in the work of four local counselling services as well as running my own private counselling and psychotherapy practice.
What to Expect during Counselling, Psychotherapy
I am a Gestalt Psychotherapist. Gestalt Psychotherapy is a therapeutic relational approach concerned with awareness and personal choice. We all have a natural tendency towards wholeness and health. We are each unique and have the ability to respond appropriately and creatively to our own needs.
However, throughout life, circumstances have sometimes forced us to make choices and create fixed patterns of behaviour that now leave us feeling dissatisfied, stressed, uncomfortable or ill at ease.
In Gestalt Psychotherapy we explore our here and now experience in order to gain awareness of how we might be habitually reducing sensations, feelings, thoughts and actions and creating patterns that no longer help us. When we gain a fuller sense of our moment to moment activity through working with a therapist we can increase our choices in how we live and interact with other people.

Clinical Training in Counselling, Psychotherapy
After a career in both industry and higher education I trained as a psychotherapist. My first degree was in Literature. I began my training journey in Person Centred Counselling and then completed a Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. In 2004 I finished a Masters degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute in Nottingham (Accredited by the University of Derby). During my studies I also undertook an additional two year training course in Couples Counselling. I also have completed some training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
