Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am an experienced psychotherapist working in private practice in central London. I am also employed as a trauma practitioner at a counselling and trauma service. I have experience of working as an honorary psychotherapist at two NHS clinics, a homeless shelter and an employee assistance programme.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

Therapy is about people connecting and forming relationships. In working existentially, I seek to listen to my clients and tune in for moments which value the inter-subjectivity inherent in the relationship between us. It is of great value to see that we are all creating worlds all the time and it can be of great importance to see what kind of world is being created in therapy. Our worlds meet in our accessing the encapsulation of emotional truth. Truth is a revelation, from one’s centre. This centre is unique to each individual and only from this centre can the revelation arise.

Therapy can be useful in gaining insight into what we are doing with ourselves. Are we truthfully creating a work which uncovers our being? Are we perpetuating or avoiding static patterns of behaviour and thought? We end up with what we create and we can never stop creating who we are until the end. I seek to help my clients explore what is happening and what role they can play in changing or accepting where and who they are.

In order to do this, the first session takes the form of a thorough assessment, where I find out what the current issues are, take a personal history and together, we set goals for the therapy. In cases where there is past trauma or anxiety, I will also explore ways of dealing with the trauma symptoms, including relaxation, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) resource building and stress reduction.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Additional Information

"The outer was not at all in harmony with the inner but was rather its opposite, and only under this angle of refraction is [man] to be comprehended". Soren Kierkegaard

"An art is not a contest; it’s a continual growing. Whenever the artist thinks she’s mastered the craft, she’s stopped growing and so has stopped being an artist. True art is only to be found on the edge of what is known". James Bugental
