Clinical Experience in Counselling

I am a person-centred & CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) Counsellor, who sees clients face to face in a private setting in my own home, in Bexleyheath, Kent. I work short or long term with clients aged 5 to 85+ on any of the issues mentioned above.

I worked for three years as a Counsellor at a Project for permanently excluded children, and still work for CRUSE Bereavement Care with children and adults suffering loss.

I have wide experience of working with a diverse range of clients of differing gender, ages, sexual orientation and socio-economic classes, with differing cultures, racial and religious backgrounds.

I regularly attend training courses and enjoy learning new techniques.

I adhere to the BACP Ethics and have regular supervision.

What to Expect during Counselling

I trained as a person-centred Counsellor and am based in Bexleyheath, Kent. I use various approaches with clients depending on their individual needs.

I offer:

a Person-Centred approach which allows the client to guide themselves through the episode rather than being led by me;

Gestalt techniques which are directive and focus on the 'here & now' and concentrate on the client's processes and feelings;

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) to allow the client to examine their thoughts and beliefs & help them see that negative thoughts influence the way they feel;

REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy) which helps clients to see that it is their beliefs which are responsible for their emotional and behavioural reactions to life events;

Transactional Analysis which looks at how we communicate and how connections to the past influence decisions we make;

and Psychosynthesis techniques to help the client gain inner freedom and mastery over their psychological state.

I strongly believe that each client is unique, and I ensure that I treat each as such with empathy, congruence and without judgement.

Clinical Training in Counselling

I have:

- an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling;
- Certificates in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy;
- Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy;
- Problem Focussed Counselling, Coaching & Training;
- and Transactional Analysis.

I am:

- an Associate Member of the BACP (seeking accreditation);
- Member of CCYP (Counselling Children & Young People);
- and AREBT (Association of Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapists).

Testimonials about Ann Thompson

"Anne, you became my sunshine and chased my cloudy days away, now I smile nearly all the time." Nine Year Old Boy

"The best gift I gave my son was to listen to how he felt/interpreted my divorce. The skills Anne taught me to achieve this will stay with me forever. In a matter of weeks the change in my son was overwhelming. The guilt he carried around with him vanished. I once again had my happy confident son back. It's as if Anne's wand had magic powers and my son's behaviour changed in the best possible way. Anne truly has a special gift. The skills she showed in understanding my son's pain, turning negative thoughts he had into positive ones, is such a wonderful thing to see and hear." Mother of Nine Year Old Boy
