Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Counsellor. I provide counselling in East Finchley. I have ten years experience working within a voluntary sector counselling centre and in private counselling practice. I bring my previous work experience of working for many years in the media and also of working in advice centres and with the elderly.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

My main counselling work is as a psychodynamic counsellor. This has its roots in the Freudian tradition, which uses psychoanalytic concepts to explain human growth and development, and the nature of psychological problems. I work with you to help give you insight into unconscious relationship patterns that have evolved since childhood. Memories and other evidence of early relationships are used to make sense of what is happening to you now. Together we look at your defence mechanisms and help you to become more aware and this helps to process change. Counselling is based on acceptance, empathy and understanding.

Your counselling appointments can be once or twice a week for long term work, but I can also work using brief focused therapy which will concentrate on specific difficulties which you may have.

Although there are public transport facilities I can offer at additional cost parking facilities near to the practice.

I have a Diploma in Supervision and supervise counsellors who work with a variety of issues and help them to understand some of the difficulties they encounter in their counselling work.
