Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy
I have provided private psychotherapy in Uppermill near Oldham in Lancashire since qualifying as a psychotherapist ten years ago. Clients refer themselves or come via workplace schemes and GPs. I work with a variety of issues and have particular knowledge in communication skills, assertiveness, conflict, change and stress management.
What to Expect during Psychotherapy
My primary qualification is in psychodrama, which simply means actively exploring the dramas of our lives through the roles we play (e.g. mother, worker, manager, son, bereaved daughter, frustrated adventurer). This is informed by my additional experience with the person centred approach - working alongside the client, at their pace, no forcing or over interpreting. The client remains the 'expert' on their own situation. I listen, reflect, help to focus, explore, and bring to the mix various creative ways of working, such as visualisation, art or drama, where appropriate. The client remains in control of the process and can say 'no' to any of my suggestions, which will be respected.Clinical Qualifications in Psychotherapy
- UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist since 1999
- Advanced Diploma Psychodrama - British Psychodrama Association (BPA) Cheltenham (UK) 1999
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Psychotherapy. I abide by the Code of Ethics of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Code of Ethics of the British Psychodrama Association (BPA) Cheltenham.
Additional Information
I retrained as a psychotherapist in my early 40s after an initial career for twenty years in the creative arts, particularly drama and music. The creator of psychodrama, Dr J L Moreno, believed everyone was potentially a creative genius. I strongly believe in our ability to move forward in our lives through using our spontaneity and creativity to generate adequate solutions to new problems, and new solutions to old problems. This is what I work to help my clients achieve.
