Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I worked at The Priory Hospital, Roehampton for six years. In this time I specialised in addiction and substance and behavioural dependence, working in the addiction unit there with in-patients, out-patients and family members. I also worked with patients with depression, relationship and family issues, self-esteem and self-confidence issues, and trauma, anxiety, bereavement and stress.
I have also worked at The Caravan at St. James Church, Piccadilly, a drop-in counselling service, and SHARP, a state-funded Addiction Rehabilitation Unit.
Whilst training for my diploma i gained six hundred supervised client contact hours.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I work in an integrative way which means that I draw on a range of psychotherapeutic styles and theories depending on the client and their needs. I value the client - therapist relationship very highly, seeing it as crucial to change and healing, and I believe that I can provide a safe, receptive and reassuring environment for any client. My philosophy includes the ideas that:
a) personal crises and difficulties can be seen as useful signposts indicating directions in which we may evolve and develop,
b) therapy is based on the principle of identifying, acknowledging and developing a person's strengths or qualities.
