Clinical Experience in Counselling
I am a very experienced friendly counsellor. I don't sit in silence - I encourage a dialogue which will hopefully make you more aware of what you are doing in your life and why.
I always think one of the most important factors in determining whether a counselling relationship will work is how comfortable you feel in talking to me. I like to think we work together in thinking about you, wondering about you, talking about you, how you feel in the room talking to me.
I am based in Stoke Newington. Islington, Highbury and Finsbury Park are a short walk away. I usually work from The Burma Road Practice which is a large Victorian house within which there are a number of therapy rooms. Very quiet and comfortable.
I work with people long and short term. Some of my clients return on a semi regular basis - sometimes for a few more sessions, sometimes for longer and sometimes just to let me know how they are!
What to Expect during Counselling
I think an initial session is important. An opportunity for you to meet me and to get more of a feel of how I work. I am quite analytical but over the years with continual supervision, training, courses, reading and just experience I think I have developed an approach which can be quite adaptable according to my client's needs.Clinical Qualifications in Counselling
I trained at Highgate Counselling Centre in 1997, an accredited training centre. Before that I worked as a volunteer in various organisations. My qualifications include:
Certificate in Working with Eating Disorders 2007
Certificate in Bereavement Counselling 2007
Diploma Counselling 2005
Certificate Counselling 1997
Certificate Counselling Skills 1996
Certificate Co-Counselling 1991
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Apart from my private work I am now on the staff at Highgate and I am an intake counsellor there as well as seeing clients.
