Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

We are relational beings, saying hello to a mum by kicking inside her belly until the moment of birth, then meeting and sharing moments with mum, dad, brothers, sisters, friends of the family, or other caregiver. Therefore, relationship is something to learn and master in everyday life in order to live a better life. A fragile attachment may result in vulnerability. The person with low self esteem tends to create a distorted self image, feeling unvalued and unlovable, and incapable of loving himself or herself and others. This 'false perception' may lead the person to adopt a destructive way to relate to themself and others, destroying important relationships. Therapy is a process that allows you to know more about yourself. How much would you like to know more about yourself? As a psychotherapist I invite you to take this journey together, within a trusting and safe working relationship, fighting the fears which may immobilise you, allowing you to explore, reflect and increase self awareness by understanding the origin of the disrupted feelings which try to inhibit growth. Therapy can encourage you to recreate a more constructive self image in order to achieve your potential to live your life to the full. I worked at the NHS Watford General Hospital, while training for my masters degree in psychotherapy and counselling at Regent's College. Working with clients presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, addiction, sex abuse, marital problems, hypochondria and eating disorders. Since then, I have been working privately, with individuals and couples, helping them to understand about relationships - reflecting on how they perceive themselves and deal with situations and others.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am an integrative psychotherapist. I am committed to respect the diversity of people's backgrounds and consider all the aspects which form their identity. I endeavour to work in a non judgemental, compassionate and strictly confidential way, using a suitable approach to attend to the client's uniqueness and needs. I strive to giving the client insight into the influence of what is unconscious by revisiting the past, but not becoming a slave to it, rather, understanding the impact of what had happened in childhood and adolescence and the resulting effects in present emotions and relationships. Yet, emphasising that people are not static beings but can re-create themselves towards a more constructive, fulfilling future.

During therapy I use different dynamics to make the process enjoyable and help to create a visual scenario, facilitating the understanding of the problems. My work also includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help to promote positive helpful thinking. I value face to face therapy and I also offer telephone therapy, which is cost effective and a non geographic facilitation for those who live anywhere in the UK. Another facility I offer to clients is email therapy. It is important to adapt and take advantage of the advance in technology, which allows the possibility of a therapeutic contact.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I have a BSc (Hons). I also have an MA in psychotherapy and counselling from Regents College London. As a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
