Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist and have many years experience in helping people make successful changes in their lives. I provide private counselling and psychotherapy from my consulting rooms in Walthamstow, East London where I see clients for both short term counselling and open ended psychotherapy. I am also a Counsellor for Employee Assistance Programmes, providing counselling for the employees of their corporate clients around workplace issues. I have been a counsellor at MIND for three years seeing a wide social, economic and ethnic range of clients and I have two years experience of counselling in a workplace setting. I also have extensive experience of telephone counselling. My background is in mental health, working closely with the NHS mental health services.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

People can experience emotional distress at times, maybe because of a difficult childhood, past or recent traumas, or current problems affecting daily life. You may be feeling depressed, stressed or anxious, feel that you are in crisis or that life has lost meaning for you. You may be faced with important decisions, know that you want to make changes but are not quite sure how to go about this. Sometimes it’s your relationships, perhaps with family, friends or work colleagues, which are causing unhappiness.

I am a Humanistic Integrative and Transpersonal Psychotherapist. Integrative psychotherapy understands the connection between mind, body and soul. This approach integrates the well known approaches of psychotherapy, mainly Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Existential, Gestalt and Transpersonal. This method means that you will be helped to see how the past is impacting on your present, affecting the way you think and behave now. You will be supported to make changes in the present, explore what your life’s meaning might be and how to grow and develop in the future. This approach looks at your past, present and future, changing unhealthy patterns in your life so that you can feel more ‘whole’ and more completely yourself. It is important to feel accepted and understood for whom you really are and to this aim I provide a supportive environment for self-discovery.

Along with talking about your life you can also explore your life creatively by describing your dreams, using visualisations, by drawing and writing. All of these can help make connection to parts of yourself which have become 'lost' and which need to be re-integrated to feel more complete.

People may think they have to struggle on alone with their difficulties and often try to change by themselves, feeling it would somehow be ‘weak’ or ‘embarrassing’ to ask someone else for help. Talking to an experienced therapist such as myself, however, can help you get to the root of what is stopping your life moving forward and feeling happier, and also give you extra support in making changes.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I trained for five years at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE), gaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy which is a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Accredited Course. I have also undertaken short courses in Mental Health Diagnosis, Domestic Violence, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, HIV and AIDS, Suicidal Ideation and Self-harm. I continue to pursue training to update and supplement my practice.

Additional Information

I also see clients in Paddington in West London.

I have an interest in people not having children and run small therapeutic workshops on issues around being 'child free'.
