Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I have worked in a number of settings providing short term counselling for workplace and personal issues and longer term psychotherapy for deeper personal growth and development. I work as a telephone counsellor for an EAP and as a staff counsellor for a London NHS hospital. I have worked for several charities providing psychotherapy to a wide range of people. I have worked with people on relationships (especially finding their right place in complex families), bereavements, drinking problems, communication difficulties, and developing confidence and self-esteem.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

I enjoy working with people to help them change how they relate to themselves, which enables them to relate differently to the people around them and to develop a different perspective on life.

The focus of my work is on how people cope with their circumstances and situation in life. I often use my experience of being with a person to inform my understanding of how it is they are stuck with the difficulties that they face and then gently create an opportunity for them to change the way they are in the world. I enjoy this delicate, gradual process of nourishment.

To make this unfolding possible, I create a safe, sheltered space in which to work and I honour a person as they are.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

My core training is in Integrative Psychotherapy. As I have evolved a way of working I have drawn on influences from many approaches: person-centred, Transactional Analysis, psychodynamic, systemic, existential and many others. Although these perspectives have the potential to be contradictory and confusing, I find that being able to call on this diversity of influences supports me in responding more appropriately to the specific needs of each person I work with.

Previously I have gained a diploma in Group Facilitation and Emotional Literacy. Currently I am an apprentice Group Analyst and am committed to further training in this field.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
