Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am a Training Group Analyst working with individuals, couples and groups in private practice and consult to organisations in various settings such as the NHS, voluntary and commercial. I am trained to work in both brief focal work and longer term dynamic therapy. I am a former Director of Training at the IGA and Convenor of the London Qualifying Course. With over 20 years experience I focus on developing personal and professional potential by accessing and integrating emotional, intellectual and creative aspects in every individual. Increasing self awareness and understanding is the transformational key. This can only take place within a trusting relationship and all people are offered an assessment session to ensure we can make a good connection as a basis for working together.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

Group analytic principles underpin my work. This approach sees the relationship between an individual and his groups, family, social and cultural as central to development and therefore to furthering self-understanding. Being open to the constant ebb and flow of interactions between personal individual needs and the needs and demands of family and society is essential.

Initial sessions will explore the person's history and background to give context to the pressing problems of today. As work progresses the focus is on present feelings, behaviour and concerns whilst helping the person see how these have been shaped by personal experience and history.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Following my initial training as a counsellor in 1984 I subsequently trained as a group analytic psychotherapist, qualifying in 1994. I have a Masters Degree in psychoanalytic therapy.

Additional Information

More recently my work has expanded into coaching in organisations. I am a member of the Association for Coaching and the Special Section in Coaching of the British Psychology Society.
