Clinical Experience in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy
I have practiced for over ten years in the Health Service, through a Counselling and Psychotherapy Agency and Private Practice. I have experience of working with couples and individuals to varying degrees of intensity, depending upon what is needed. For several years I trained counsellors and psychotherapists in the university sector and now devote this time to the education of our psychoanalytical trainees and my private practice.
What to Expect during Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy
As a Contemporary Psychoanalyst I work within a field which has been developing for over a century which started with the founding work of Sigmund Freud. I use important developments in psychoanalysis from both Europe and the USA in a way which is sensitive to modern contemporary lifestyles. I see my clients once or more times a week, depending upon circumstances and the intensity of the work.Often my clients come with a life problem, and this will be the focus of work for some time before going onto examining underlying and predisposing underlying causes, as problems tend to repeat themselves and this can be addressed. The focus of the work is the analytical relation itself and from this unconscious processes can be explored. Through a supportive and holding therapeutic relationship the client can come to make realistic choices about how they want to live their lives.
