Clinical Experience in Psychology
I am Dr Kaye Blackburn. I qualified as a Psychologist in 1988 and have been employed as a Doctor of Clinical Psychology since 1995. I have worked in the NHS for many years up to Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist level, helping people with a range of psychological problems. In 2006 I began working privately full time.
I am a Registered Practitioner Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professionals Council (HPC) and a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). This means I work to a code of practice to work ethically. I update my skills and knowledge each year, to allow me to provide clients with the most useful treatment choices. I also hold a current practising certificate and up to date professional indemnity insurance.
What to Expect during Psychology
As part of the work I offer I provide an assessment first to determine if I can be of help to the clients who I see. Then an agreed block of time limited therapy is discussed, depending on their needs. During therapy I provide session handouts and learning aids to help people build new patterns for living, if appropriate. I use approaches that build skills and help the client understand, change and sometimes adapt to cope better with their life problems. Most often I see clients with low mood, anxiety, phobias, self esteem issues, trauma and adjustment reactions after life events, abuse or injury. Within this group of people I see and help people with a wide range of symptoms and different life problems. In terms of age range I see clients between age sixteen and above. I work with both short term and longer term patterns. As part of the services I provide I offer weekly therapy clinics. These are mainly in office hours.
