Clinical Experience in Counselling

I have extensive experience in bereavement and loss, having worked in a hospice for some years; here I offer counselling to bereaved family members. I have also worked as a counsellor in a GP surgery, addressing many issues including depression, addiction, domestic violence and low self-esteem. I currently also offer therapy to teenagers in a school. I have a private counselling practice offering a safe and confidential environment in which to make sense of difficult feelings. I can provide support and understanding in a non-judgemental way, addressing each client's needs on an individual basis.

What to Expect during Counselling

I work on a one to one basis, either long or short term, with appointments being weekly.

I believe each client to be individual with specifically individual needs; therefore, I work together with each client, in a way that is most helpful to them.

Counselling is usually sought when a person feels the need for extra emotional support. This may be a result of generally feeling low or unable to manage day to day, or there may be a more specific issue affecting your everyday life. It may be difficult to acknowledge or admit that you need help, and this can seem frightening. By walking alongside you, together we can look at ways to promote changes within yourself, bringing confidence and a sense of control.

When we recognise the need for personal change, we can use our inner resources to make change happen. With the help and support I can offer, together we can look at ways to enable you to make positive changes within yourself.

Often it is useful to explore past experiences in order to discover more about yourself, enabling you to focus more clearly on what it is that you might wish to change. In this way, I can help you to make sense of the past in order to cope more easily with the present.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling

  • UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP) Registered Independent (UKRCP Reg Ind) Counsellor since 2010
  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor since 2010
  • BACP Accredited Diploma Counselling - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Lutterworth (UK) 2007

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Conditions of Registration of the UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP).
