Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy
I provide long term psychoanalytic psychotherapy in comfortable surroundings in the heart of Canterbury, Kent. My work involves exploring deep unconscious processes. This is a long intense psychotherapy journey using the couch to enable free association and the meaning of dreams.
I am the director of a counselling and psychotherapy centre and lead a team of fourteen practitioners.
Initial Assessment. In addition to long term therapy I also undertake assessment sessions. Sometimes people do not know who to choose when seeking help, there are so many types of practitioners. I have twenty years experience in this work and twelve years of conducting initial assessments. So, if in our initial meeting we decide that my approach does not suit your needs I am able to offer you treatment with one of my counsellors, psychologists or psychotherapists at the centre. I will personally match you with someone I feel will work well with you, whether it is for psychotherapy, counselling or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
What to Expect during Psychotherapy
I work on a long term basis with clients. I enable clients to make links between their present difficulties and past experiences. These often relate to unresolved childhood issues and early relationships with parents and siblings.I see clients for fifty minute sessions, often twice a week. I invite clients to bring their dreams to sessions so that we can begin to understand their unconscious meaning. Clients lie on a couch and talk about their dreams, past experiences, current issues and what is taking place between us in our journey together.
We won't focus on how to remove symptoms or how to try specific tasks to overcome your presenting difficulties. Rather, this is a patient and subtle journey into the unconscious and into finding out who you are. Only when that is achieved will you find that the symptoms and difficulties will gradually fade.
Clinical Qualifications in Psychotherapy
I have an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling. I have dual registration with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) under the Integrative section and the Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic section of the register. I am currently undertaking research for a PhD.
Additional Information
I have trained counsellors and psychotherapists up to MSc level at the University of Kent.
