Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
My experience in counselling and psychotherapy includes working within the NHS as well as a variety of counselling centres throughout London. I have worked with a wide range of emotional difficulties including; depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, family and relationship problems as well as experiences of loss and bereavement. My main areas of research have been the origins of depression and depression during adolescence. I continue to take part in professional development which includes training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Attachment Theory.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
My training in counselling and psychotherapy is integrative. Integrative psychotherapy can be described as the process of making whole. It is a way of working which involves different approaches attuned to the needs of the individual with the aim of encouraging greater understanding and self-awareness.I offer both short-term and long-term therapy. Short-term would normally come under the heading of counselling and would comprise of an agreed number of sessions. This would usually mean focusing on a specific problem. In many cases, however, people come to therapy unable to identify the problem but knowing that underlying emotional patterns need to be addressed. In this case, psychotherapy offers a longer period of time so that insight can be gained into emotional issues that may arise from the past.
Many people seek therapy for a variety of reasons, usually when aspects of life are causing them to feel unhappy. From time to time, we all come to a point in life where we feel confused, anxious or generally unhappy and we don't necessarily know why. Our feelings get in the way of how we think and act and interfere with our work and our ability to have healthy relationships with friends and family. Psychotherapy and counselling can offer a confidential setting where emotional difficulties can be explored, managed and often resolved.
There is, however, nothing magical about psychotherapy or counselling, both are based on a working relationship which requires commitment and continuity on the part of the therapist and the client and this applies to both short-term and long-term therapy.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am an integrative psychotherapist and hold a Master's Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling as well as an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, both from Regent's College, London. I am United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), two of the UK's main associations for the promotion and monitoring of high standards and practice in psychotherapy. I practice in Central London, Regent Street, where I am part of the group practice Talk:Psychotherapy.
