Clinical Experience in Counselling

I am a humanistic person centred counsellor based in the Swiss Cottage area of North London and provide counselling to adults and older teens (sixteen years upwards) on an individual basis. I work both short and long term, depending on the needs of my clients. I have extensive experience of working in various settings, including doctor's surgeries and a sixth form college, as well as running my own private counselling practice. I come from a teaching background and have a great interest in helping others to grow and find ways of achieving their full potential in life.

What to Expect during Counselling

The world is extremely complex, and there are many pressures all around us; pressure to be or think a particular way, to please others, to 'fit in'. Often we do this at the expense of who we 'really' are, and, I believe, this often leads to symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. As a person centred counsellor, I believe that within everybody lies a unique spark; a seed that, if cultivated gently, with kindness, love, non judgementalism and understanding, can grow in wonderful ways.

The problem is that, most of us, come from the starting place of what we can't do or be, so we never get the chance to express our higher selves. I believe that by providing a space for you to explore those things that feel difficult for you, in a confidential, caring and accepting environment, it is possible to get to a different place, where you can begin to express this part of you.

I do not offer advice, or believe that I myself have a solution to the problems of life, but I can provide a safe place and a non judgemental ear. Often, I find, it is not a case of changing the circumstances of one's life, but of changing one's relationship to them. This is an exciting, sometimes frightening, but extremely rewarding journey you are on, and I see my role as a being a companion on a part of this journey. My ultimate wish for you is that you no longer need me and can continue on with your journey, a more confident and complete individual.

I tend to see clients weekly or fortnightly and each session lasts for fifty minutes. I work short, or long term, depending on a client's needs. What we do, and how we work together, very much depends on you and what feels best at the time. I find that this way of working can lead to very surprising results and means that you remain the 'boss'!

I would be very happy to hear from you and answer any other questions you may have. Above all, I wish you all the best of luck on your forward journey.

Clinical Training in Counselling

I have a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling - a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Course. I regularly attend training courses and continuously work on my self development. I attend regular clinical supervision - both individual and group. As a Member of the BACP I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
