Clinical Experience in Counselling
I have been working as a counsellor for almost five years and have worked in organisational settings whilst establishing my private counselling practice. I hold a Diploma in Counselling and a Certificate in Counselling Children and Adolescents. I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework. As well as private referrals, I receive referrals from Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) and from a local organisation dealing with women who have been the victims of domestic abuse.
What to Expect during Counselling
I work as an Integrative counsellor. This means I believe that every individual is unique and by taking this approach I can tailor my practice to my client's needs. My initial training in counselling was Humanistic. This means I work in a Person Centred manner and bring in elements of Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Transactional Analysis (TA).
I begin the counselling by establishing a working relationship so that we can clarify and define problem areas where we can agree to work together. My work is client led and this enables the client to choose whether to work short term on an immediate issue or longer term on underlying themes.
I believe that each individual creates their own meaning and are the experts with regards to themselves. I provide an arena where self-awareness can grow, and as a client discovers their untapped resources they are able to realise their potential and become capable of sustainable change.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling
My Diploma in Counselling has a Humanistic base and included training in Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA). I also studied for a Certificate in Counselling Children and Adolescents. I have received further training during my work with organisations with regards to Solution Focused Therapy, addictions, abuse and bereavement. I attend a monthly personal development group and regularly attend professional development activities.
