Clinical Experience
I am a psychotherapeutic Counsellor providing face to face work to individuals and couples in a private setting in my home in Worcester Park. I work long and short term with clients on a wide range of issues. Although based in Worcester Park clients travel from the surrounding areas of London, Kingston, Sutton, Epsom and beyond.I qualified as an integrative counsellor in 2006 and before setting up in private practice I have counselled at Kingston University, Kingston council and several agencies including LACAP in central London. In private practice clients self-refer and are referred by the above bodies, BUPA and charities such as the Shaw Trust.
Working in these environments has given me wide clinical experience with men and women of all ages (from university age upwards) and ethnic backgrounds. I have counselled clients from the UK, mainland Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, South America and the far and middle East, therefore I have wide experience working with cultural diversity.
My work is bound by a code of ethics as required by the BACP (The British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy), I am in clinical supervision and I attend regular CPD workshops (continuing professional development) to enhance my abilities to work with specific issues that clients bring.
How I Work
As an integrative counsellor I draw on several of the main counselling/psychotherapeutic models and by combining these ways of working from say psychodynamic, humanistic and gestalt models, etc, a seamless integrated model evolves with the quality of the therapeutic relationship being of paramount importance. It is this ‘relational’ way of working, my openness, congruence, non-judgemental, authentic presence combined with a safe and boundaried space in which to actively listen to clients, that can produce changes and choices in the face of life’s challenges.
Working long or short term we can set goals on which to work towards or in longer term work uncover deeper meanings that dictate our lives that disempower us; by gradual emergence of unconscious material such as memories, we can shed old ways of being and feel empowered and have more choices around how we act in the world.
Clinical Training
I trained for 4 years as a Counsellor building up the required clinical hours for qualification on work placements, being regularly supervised and undergoing my own obligatory personal psychotherapy. The qualification of Advanced Diploma in Professional Integrative Counselling was awarded in 2006.I am trained to work with clients bringing a wide range of issues, see the list above.
