Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I work as a psychological therapist. I am experienced in helping those with the above problems and more, to move forward in their life. During my career as a counsellor, I have worked in the largest GP Surgery in the UK, and have also helped children and young people at Place2Be and with Open Door. This has built on my extensive experience as a teacher, especially in the area of Special Needs.
Outside of my private counselling and psychotherapy practice, I work part time as a University Lecturer and run my own business Get Set 4 Success, where I enable clients to fulfil and expand their true potential in all areas of life. In addition I have experience working with patients in a Mental Health/PD Unit. This means I have been able to help many people understand why they are where they are and in doing so, improve how they feel about themselves.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I work in a variety of ways according to the needs of the individual. I am skilled in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Time Line Therapy (TLT), which work at both the conscious and the unconscious level - thus confronting thoughts, attitudes and behaviours and getting to the very root cause of the problem; working with the individual in Person Centred Counselling enables them to see that they are able to help themselves and they do indeed have all the resources within to achieve what they want in life.My approach is integrative, which means I use a number of therapeutic approaches in particularly the following:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a 'Here and Now' approach to understanding and overcoming psychological problems. Since thinking, feeling and behaviour interact together, CBT endeavours to understand this interaction and enables the person to make changes when thought patterns are 'disturbed'.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a model of communication - how a person communicates to self and others - and how that communication creates and affects their behaviour. It is about focusing on what comes in through the neurology (cognitive) and the programmes that person runs inside their head to produce the behaviours. It is like having an 'instruction manual for the mind'.
Time Line Therapy (TLT) works with the person at the 'unconscious level' and gets to the very root cause of the problem, which the person is not consciously aware of. The techniques are a process of active imagination where the client floats above their Time Line and lets go of negative emotions and/or limiting decisions (or limiting beliefs). The client is also asked to imagine creating events in their future to support goals or outcomes. TLT is a very powerful, effective and successful technique which allows the client to make lasting changes in a very rapid way.
Person Centred Counselling: the client comes to a realisation, an understanding of themselves inside. From this place, the client is helped to see that the best resource in making change and growing, is actually themselves.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have a Diploma in Counselling as well as being a Trainer of Neuro Linguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis and NLP Coaching. In addition, I hold a PGCE, MSc and BA (Hons) having been involved in education for many years. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am a Member of the American Board of NLP (MABNLP), the American Board of Hypnotherapy (MABH), and the Time Line Therapy Association (MTLTA). I am currently CRB checked. In addition to telephone counselling, I am able offer counselling with clients through 'Skype' along with webcam.
Additional Information
My motto is to 'Inspire, Motivate and Enable': to assist the individual to reach and expand upon their true full potential in life. I believe that people are not their behaviours; they are just doing the best they can with the resources they have available at that time. Therapy just helps the client realise this and see their own inner strengths to move forward in their life.
