Clinical Experience in Counselling
I have a wide range of experience in counselling through working for two charities and privately with adults, children and young people. I have specific training and experience in counselling working in the aftermath of sexual abuse and trauma related to any kind of sexual assault in either adults or children and childhood. I am familiar with and happy to work within the 12 step programme and to explore sexuality based issues as well as explore stress, general unhappiness and difficult life experiences.
What to Expect during Counselling
I work in an integrative way pulling heavily on the Person Centred Rogerian tradition. In the counselling sessions the client can explore various aspects of their life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief and embarrassment can become very intense and counselling offers an opportunity to explore them, with the possibility of making them easier to understand.I use one to one humanistic relational counselling and can encompass some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques if required. I am trained to work in the standard face to face format or use art and play therapy techniques to explore the subconscious and inner child if appropriate with both adults and young people.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling
- British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Member (MBACP) Counsellor since 1996
- Diploma Counselling
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
