Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I provide private counselling in Birmingham. I have several years' experience working as a counsellor in a low-cost, accessible counselling centre in Birmingham. I have seen a wide range of clients and assisted people facing varied forms of emotional, psychological, and spiritual difficulties. I also have been an informal mentor over the last ten years, and so have a broad experience of working to assist others in dealing with difficulties and achieving their potential.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

To me, what is most important in counselling is an emphasis on ‘caring for soul.’ I believe we all have a need to tell our stories, and that being heard is, in itself, healing. Counselling works through the meeting of counsellor and client, and the time we spend together, paying careful attention to what you have experienced.

Although we might, in a session, explore your dreams, or work with active imagination, or talk about addictions or habits you’re trying to break, or new, positive ways of being you’re wanting to cultivate, I believe that our meeting, your feeling yourself heard and attended to, is what really makes the difference.

Suffering and a search for meaning are inescapable aspects of our lives - and though we can grow from them, they also often are intensely painful experiences. I hope I will be able to help you in dealing with whatever you’re facing, and support you in realising whatever is coming into being in your life.

In my own experience of working over several years with a therapist, the simple act of talking to a neutral person, someone who’s not involved in what you’re going through, can be very helpful in gaining perspective and understanding what’s going on. And this experience has been borne out too by many of the clients I have worked with.
