How I Work
I believe that every person is different, thus, I use an eclectic approach to counselling and psychotherapy. My approach includes influences from a Psychodynamic model, a Person Centered model, as well as a Cognitive Behavioural model of therapy. In addition, I complement these approaches with ongoing specialisation in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.I am a guide that is there to help you discuss, explore, understand, and problem solve. We work as a team on a journey towards self awareness, exploration, and resolution of your difficulties. You may also be given tasks to explore and complete as part of your therapeutic treatment.
Clinical Training in Counselling, Psychology, Psychotherapy
I earned an MA in Psychology (Speciality in Counselling) (USA) in 2002. I have over six years working as a Psychologist and as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Prior to becoming a Psychologist, I worked for over four years in various psychology based jobs. So, over all I have over ten years experience in the field of psychology. In addition, I have completed level II training in EMDR, a treatment which can be helpful to those who have endured traumatic experiences and other issues.
I receive clinical supervision on a regular basis. As a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and
the Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Association of the United Kingdom and Ireland (EMDR UK), I adhere to and am bound by their ethical frameworks for good practice.
Additional Information from Thomas Sobel
I believe that our first telephone appointment or online therapy exchange is important. It is a time to explore our options and determine if we both feel we can work together. It is important that, as a client, you feel you can develop a therapeutic alliance and trust; as well as determine if you feel we can work together.Updated 21|12|2009
