Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy

Hi. My name is Kathy (Mc Anallen), and I am an Accredited Psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), living and working in the Greengates area of Bradford, West Yorkshire. I have been working as a therapist since 2003. I usually work from a room in my home which is free from interruption but can (when it is indicated) travel to the client's home when travelling or circumstances are difficult.

What to Expect during Psychotherapy

My way of working is through a psychoanalytic approach. This is a method of helping the client to bring into awareness those ways of being which are unconscious, deeply set and inclined to frustrating repetitions. One of the ways I do this is by analysing dreams, as well as through the relationship that develops between myself and the client. This approach differs from most other therapies in that it aims for deep seated change in personality and emotional development. The amount of change of course is always determined by the client as to how far and how deep the process goes. I offer a confidential private setting which facilitates a process where unconscious patterns of the inner world become reflected in the relationship between us (transference). This process helps the client to gradually identify these patterns and, in becoming conscious of them, to develop the capacity to understand and change them. A psychoanalytic approach helps to make sense of how we got to where we are now, and to face some of the fears we have hidden from ourselves and others.
