Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
Please note: I currently have availability for daytime and evening counselling appointments.
I have a variety of professional experience in counselling from previous posts held both in the UK and the USA. I have previously worked in the following posts:
- Pastoral Counsellor, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York City.
- Home-Based Family Therapist for a counselling agency in Saco, Maine, USA.
- Individual Therapist to severely mentally ill adults in a community clinic in New Hampshire, USA.
- Individual Counsellor at The Bridge Counselling Centre, Worcester, UK.
- Student and Staff Counsellor at Godalming College, Surrey.
I also have a range of work and business experience that is highly valuable in my work with clients who are experiencing employment or workplace related difficulties. Additionally, my training included many elements of work with spiritual or religious concerns, particularly with the Christian and Buddhist traditions.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am an integrative therapist, incorporating both psychodynamic and person centred methods of working with individuals. This means that my work focuses on your needs in counselling and that you are your own greatest tool in helping yourself to live a happy and fulfilled life. The psychodynamic aspect of my work means that I will utilise the relationship that develops between us to understand your ways of being with others in the world. This can be particularly helpful when you are faced with interpersonal or relationship difficulties. Counselling can be both short term or open ended. When working with families, my work is based in a cognitive behavioural systemic framework which is always on a time limited basis. It is typically best to have the entire family present, but I am also able to work with two parents, a parent and a child, or similar situations.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist since 2009
- MA Person Centred Counselling - York St John University (UK) 2000
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
