Clinical Experience in Counselling

I have been a qualified Counsellor since 2002. I work for myself and work with clients via referrals from GPs, employers, word of mouth, websites and of course self referrals.

How I Work

I don’t:

• make judgements,
• give advice or tell you what to do (but may suggest alternative viewpoints/ideas to try out),
• decide what the agenda is – this is in your hands,
• try to take painful feelings away, but being able to be open about feelings (and perhaps to understand and accept them more) may alleviate distress.

I aim to:

• create a space where you will feel able to bring whatever is of concern to you,
• understand what you are experiencing by listening to your concerns, questions and doubts,
• be alongside you in your distress or dilemma.

If you change anything at all about yourself it will be because you want to, not because I think you ought to. For instance, it won’t be my job to make you feel happier – but to help you fully experience and understand your feelings. Counsellors believe that expressing emotions can be a healing process. We could explore the options you might have and you might go on to decide to do something to change things – but this part of it will be in your hands.

Clinical Training in Counselling

I have attended a four year part time course ending in a Diploma in Counselling. I regularly attend seminars and workshops and keep up to date with trade journals and peer group meetings.
