Clinical Experience in Counselling, Psychoanalysis, Psychology and Psychotherapy

I am a Chartered Psychologist, Chartered Scientist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and an international practitioner in psychology and psychotherapy. I have had over twenty years experience. I have worked as a consultant and locum psychologist in the UK and abroad including Australia, Barcelona, Brussels, Christmas Island, Hong Kong, Paris, Singapore, Stockholm, and Zurich. I have been practising as a psychotherapist since 1991 after my chartership and continuously supervised by a chartered clinical psychologist for my practice in accordance to the British Psychological Society’s code of ethics and practice. In addition to my private practice, I have treated diverse clinical cases including eating disorders, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and gender identity. The experience was gained from working within the NHS primary care trusts in the UK as well as in the hospital at Christmas Island, Australia. I have recently been selected as an assessor in applied psychology for the Health Professional Council.

What to Expect during Counselling, Psychoanalysis, Psychology and Psychotherapy

Depending on the clients need, I offer a wide range of eclectic approaches including CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy); Gestalt techniques, narrative therapy, psychoanalysis, relaxation exercises and stress management. I provide my clients a ‘conversation in confidence’ which is about enabling them to express their thoughts and emotions about the challenge or issue that confronts them. By doing this, it will help them explore the options open to them and help them achieve their aspiration. After the first consultation, I as a psychologist will decide whether or not I can help the clients; they will be given the opportunity to decide if they would like any further consultations. If both the client and I would like to continue with treatment, I would decide on a plan of action (programme) for the client. The client can accept or decline the type of treatment. Either the client or the psychologist has the right to terminate the programme at any moment during the treatment process.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling, Psychoanalysis, Psychology and Psychotherapy

I was first trained between 1979 and 1981 in the Barnsley Hall Hospital (which had been closed down since then) at Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, when I was an assistant psychologist and student psychiatric nurse, supporting psychiatrists and clinical psychologists to deliver psychiatric interventions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. In its rehabilitation Unit called the Farm House, I learnt narrative psychotherapy under the late Keith Winter. After my graduation, I worked as a psychologist between 1986 and 1988 in human factors for process control industry, and provided training and counselling for operators who suffered from PTSD after disaster happened. Between 1998 and 2003, I worked in the Home Office and provided counselling and stress management mostly for police and prison officers. I obtained my PhD at Leicester University in 2000 and the Intercultural Therapy (Groups and the Arts) Postgraduate Certificate, at Goldsmiths University of London in 2004.

Additional Information

I have been supervised by a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who is an expert in CBT and sex therapy.
