Clinical Experience in Counselling
I have been practicing as a counsellor for twelve years. I have worked with clients in a number of counselling settings including the NHS, the hospice movement, prison and probation services, and the crisis centre network. I now have my own private practice and see a variety of clients.
What to Expect during Counselling
My core counselling training is person-centred which is an approach that empowers the client. I also use other approaches according to client need. For example Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [CBT] can be useful for clients who are depressed and anxious as it introduces them to techniques they can use immediately to help them cope with their symptoms.
The exploration of childhood experiences can be invaluable as it offers explanations about the present, and the opportunity for addressing unresolved issues.
Different approaches suit different people and I always consider the individual's needs.
