Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychology

Hello. My name is Tanya Augustine. I am a British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Counselling Psychologist (CPsychol) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Counselling Psychologist. I work with people to help them make sense of the thoughts and emotions they experience. My private Counselling and Psychology practice is based in Islington, London. I also practise in Clerkenwell, London.

A Counselling Psychologist since September 2005, I have 7 years of experience in Counselling and Psychology. I work with Individuals. I'm experienced in working with people from different backgrounds and cultures and women, and helping with the particular difficulties they face. My specialist experience is in Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Self Harm.

As well as being a Counselling Psychologist in private practice in Islington, London, I have experience as a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), GP Surgery, NHS Hospital and NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) Counselling Psychologist.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychology

After an initial consultation in Islington, London, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. We will take the opportunity to talk about the current or unresolved past issues for which you seek Counselling or Psychology. I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. You can see how you feel working with me. You and I will then be able to decide if my Counselling and Psychology practice is right for you.

The aim of my Counselling and Psychology practice is to develop your knowledge of causes of concerns so you discover what to change or accept and tailor therapy to you and your needs. To get the most from Counselling and Psychology you will need to be able to work collaboratively.

As a British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Counselling Psychologist (CPsychol) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Counselling Psychologist, I am trained and experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT), Multimodal Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy to help people to address life problems.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT explores the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and your external environment. It focuses on clearly defined problems and symptoms which impact negatively on you and your relationships. In CBT, you and I work together with a range of tasks and activities. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT)

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT) aims to help you better manage the difficulties you experience, by teaching you how to become more aware and accepting of your mental states which can then bring about change. Generally 6 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Multimodal Therapy

Multimodal Therapy is about tailoring therapy to best suit your needs, by drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches. Generally 16 to 52 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy explores the importance of past relationships and early experiences to help you to understand your current difficulties. Current relationships, the relationship with oneself and the therapeutic relationship, are all seen as important in gaining a better understanding of the difficulties and how they may be worked through. Generally 16 to 52 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychology

  • Health Professions Council (HPC) Registered Counselling Psychologist since 2011
  • BPS Accredited Doctorate Counselling Psychology - University of East London (UEL) (UK) 2010
