Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Welcome. My name is Geoff Lamb. I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist. I help people to address the problems in their lives. My private Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is based in East Grinstead.

I have been a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist since September 2002 so I have more than 10 years and 9 months of post-registration experience of working with clients. I work with Individuals and Couples. I am highly experienced in providing Counselling and Psychotherapy to men and people from different backgrounds and cultures, and helping with the particular concerns they face.

As well as being a Psychotherapist in private practice in East Grinstead, I have experience as a Charity, College, Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Psychotherapist. I have also worked as a Psychotherapist in France.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

After an initial appointment in East Grinstead, there is no obligation to continue if you prefer not to. As Client and Therapist, we will use the safe space to explore the current difficulties for which you are considering Counselling or Psychotherapy. I will address any questions you may have. We can see how well we work together. You and I will then be able to decide if my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is right for you.

The aim of my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is to attend to what brings you to therapy in a confidential and focused environment. To get the most from Counselling and Psychotherapy you will need to be able to speak openly with me and reflect.

As a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist, I am highly trained and experienced in using Body Therapy, Couple Therapy, Existential Therapy, Gender Therapy, Humanistic and Integrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Psychosexual Therapy, Relational Therapy and Sexual and Relationship Therapy to help people to address life problems.

Body Therapy

Focuses on the relationship between breathing patterns, tensions in the body and psychosomatic symptoms and emotional problems or blocks. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Couple Therapy

I aim to provide a safe and balanced environment in which difficulties can be explored and their potential unlocked. Generally 2 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Existential Therapy

Works with questions which can be distressing, but to which there is no obvious and clear cut answer. There are no problems to be solved, no goals to be reached. It's a matter of coming to terms with life's uncertainties and their resultant anxiety. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Gender Therapy

Explores any issues around gender and gender identity. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Humanistic and Integrative Therapy

Starts from the premise that human beings are essentially positive, but can develop problems due to unresolved issues in childhood. Integrative means that I integrate ideas and techniques from other therapeutic models into my work. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Recognises the influence of upbringing on the patterns developed later in life. In particular there is a focus on how problematic relationships are recreated, usually as attempts to resolve conflicts that stem from early childhood. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Psychosexual Therapy

Works with any form of sexual difficulty. I take a holistic, rather than a mechanistic or technical approach to sexual difficulties, believing that there are very often psychological issues underlying what presents as a sexual difficulty. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Relational Therapy

The way in which I work uses the therapeutic relationship as part of the healing process. If I can create a relationship in which all feelings can be expressed and validated this gives clients the chance to explore issues fully. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
